The Band

El 15 de noviembre está previsto el lanzamiento por parte de Capitol/Universal Music del segundo álbum homónimo de la banda norteamericana The Band (1969) en ediciones diferentes que van a contribuir a la celebración del 50 aniversario del citado LP. Las entregas ofrecen un conjunto de vinilo en edición super lujo con 2CD / Blu-ray / 2LP / y sencillo de siete pulgadas, todo en caja con libro. Se incluyen también 2 CD y 2 LP de vinilo negro 180 gramos, así como vinilo color “ojo de tigre”  en 2LP de 180 gramos de edición limitada. 

Los lanzamientos están supervisados por uno de los miembros originarios del conjunto, Robbie Robertson, y presentan una nueva mezcla estéreo de Bob Clearmountain de los originales de múltiples pistas, similar a las colecciones del 50 aniversario de Music From Big Pink del año pasado. Hay que destacar que se recuperan 13 tomas, con seis inéditas y grabaciones alternativas de sesiones de The Band, así como la actuación de Woodstock de The Band, que nunca se ha ha editado de forma oficial.

El segundo disco de The Band se puso en circulación el 22 de septiembre de 1969. En su momento produjo una agradable sorpresa entre público y crítica, que el paso del tiempo mantiene como una de las mejores grabaciones discográficas del combo formado por cuatro canadienses y un estadounidense, quienes se consolidaron con sus canciones entre las propuestas más refrescantes del rock de entonces e influyentes en generaciones posteriores de músicos y compositores. Del sobresaliente repertorio de una docena de canciones, hay que resaltar Rag Mama Rag, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Up On Cripple Creek, Jemima Surrender, The Unfaithful Servant y King Harvest (Has Surely Come).

El grupo estaba formado por Rick Danko (bajo, violín, trombón y voz), Levon Helm (batería, mandolina, guitarra rítmica y voz), Garth Hudson (órgano, clavinet, piano, acordeón, melódica, saxos tenor y barítono, slide trumpet y bass pedals), Richard Manuel (piano, saxo barítono, armónica, batería y voz) y Robbie Robertson (guitarras eléctrica y acústica). En la actualidad viven Garth Hudson y Robbie Robertson.
