Caravan es uno de los pocos grupos de rock progresivo de los sesenta que mantiene casi al completo su formación inicial a pesar del paso de los años y las modas que, por ejemplo, dejaron de lado movimientos como el sonido de Canterbury, algo así como una mezcla de free jazz y rock que forma parte de la historia de la música popular británica. Con el acierto de la experiencia, la constancia, el buen gusto y una formación exquisita en términos musicales, Caravan grabó en 1995 The Battle Of Hastings, después de 13 años que sus miembros no entraban  en un estudio bajo el nombre de la mítica banda. El resultado se concentra en un agradable repertorio que demuestra la variedad de registros del grupo inglés que impone un sonido limpio derivado de instrumentos de viento, cuerda y percusión y unas armonías vocales envidiables. Esto se aprecia en canciones como Somewhere In Your Heart, Travelling Ways, It's Not Real o I Know Why You're Laughing, ejemplos del trabajo de músicos que saben retener la esencia de un estilo intemporal dentro del ámbito del rock.

In The Land Of Grey And Pink (Deram). El sonido Canterbury tiene en el grupo Caravan uno de los principales exponentes del rock progresivo de los años sesenta y setenta. Los discos segundo y tercero de dicha formación británica, If I Could Do It All Over Again, I’d Do It All Over You (1970) e In The Land Of Grey And Pink (1971), respectivamente se publicaron en España en un doble elepé bajo el título del segundo mencionado aquí. Composiciones de largo desarrollo en las que tienen cabida la improvisación y pasajes sinfónicos, apoyados en el jazz, la música clásica y, como no, en el rock, son los elementos que definen a esta banda que lleva a cabo una ruptura con los patrones de la música pop. Winter Wine, Nine Feet Undergroung, And I Wish Were Stond y Can’ t Be Long Now constituyen un viaje a pasajes sonoros en los que entran los teclados, con un notable protagonismo del melotrón, guitarras eléctricas y vientos (saxos y flautas), y asientan las bases de un estilo en el que entrarán con posteridad músicos de rock, principalmente británicos y de otros países de Europa.
