El cuarteto de Cincinnati (Ohio), The Ophelias, lanza su segundo álbum discográfico bajo el título Almost, una prueba más de la versatilidad de las jóvenes componentes del grupo estadounidense. El atractivo de su propuesta, mediante 10 canciones compuestas todas por la guitarrista y cantante del grupo Spence Peppet, conduce a un pop sin grandes despliegues instrumentales, sabiamente dirigido hacia confluencias con la música clásica, con la ópera, el surf o el rock sobrio pero más alegre que triste, aunque intimista, propio de unas jóvenes que transmiten sus cuitas a través de piezas como Fog, General Electric o Lunar Rover, interpretaciones cuya evidente frescura enlaza con esa música intemporal en la que tienen protagonismo todos los miembros del combo.

Jan Akkerman (1946, Amsterdam) es sin duda uno de los guitarristas europeos de más largo recorrido artístico dentro del ámbito del rock, aunque este músico holandés toca diferentes palos, pues al género musical hay que añadir su trabajos en los terrenos del jazz, blues, progresivo y de la música clásica de diferentes épocas. Este mes se va a poner a la venta una caja especial con 26 discos en formato digital que incluye un completo legado del guitarrista holandés, desde sus discos en solitario a los realizados con otros grupos, entre otros, Focus, y grabaciones en directo, así como un CD con piezas raras y otras inéditas. 

La vasta entrega discográfica se completa con un libreto que ofrece una biografía, fotos inéditas y una explicación de cada uno de los discos, con los créditos completos . Jan Akkerman expone sus recuerdos de los los 23 álbumes de estudio y en vivo, que ha recopilados de entrevistas.

Lifted (Loose) 2018

Israel Nash

Israel Nash (1981, Misuri) lanzará a finales de este mes su quinto disco de larga duración. El cantante, compositor y músico utilizó su rancho de Texas para llevar a cabo su nueva grabación de la cual se pueden escuchar dos adelantos, en concreto, las piezas tituladas Rolling On y Lucky Glass. Las composiciones se encuadran en un country rock psicodélico cercano a la década de 1970 y a la actual americana, entre CS&N, Buffalo Springfield y Neil Young. No obstante, Israel va más allá de un encuadre concreto a la hora de componer para sus discos y directos, pues en Lifted se ha ocupado de incluir sonidos naturales captados en torno a su vivienda tejana y aprovechar las posibilidades del denominado muro de sonido, en el que no faltan vientos y cuerdas, que tan buenos resultados ha dado en el pop y en el rock. Junto a sus músicos habituales, y con los elementos mencionados, Nash con una docena de piezas introduce a quienes escuchen Lifted en esa epopeya estadounidense de los espacios abiertos proclives a la meditación y a los sentimientos más íntimos.
