Madfish y John Mayall Estate preparan el lanzamiento para el 7 de marzo de 2025 de la caja de lujo The Second Generation Boxset Live Magic 1968-1993, que incluye 30 discos compacto (CD) en los que aparecen grabaciones en directo de John Mayall con distintos grupos músicales a lo largo de distintas etapas del bluesman británico fallecido en julio de 2024.
El abundante material elegido en vivo fue posible a las aportaciones de los encargados de las mesas de sonido y también del público, lo cual representa una entrega original e inédita. De este legado en directo, hay que resaltar la presencia de excelentes instrumentistas como Mick Taylor, Harvey Mandel, Walter Trout y Coco Montoya, en las guitarras. Otros virtuosos, que tuvieron la fortuna de tocar con Mayall, fueron bajistas como Larry Taylor, John McVie y Steve Thompson.
También se agradece la presencia de bateristas de reconocida valía: Keef Hartley, Mike Gardner y Colin Allen, a los que se añaden avezados instrumentistas de viente Blue Mitchell (trompetista), Johnny Almond (saxofonista) y Clifford Solomon (saxofonista), entre otros muchos que participaron en actuaciones por diferentes ciudades, Nueva York, Boston, Chicago, Los Ángeles, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Vancuver, Londres, París, Milán, Padua, Berlín, Gotemburgo y Melburne.
La caja se completa con un libro de tapa dura y 120 páginas con imágenes inéditas, comentarios y una impresión artística conmemorativa.
El hermano de John, Gaz Mayall, habló de la mencionada caja de lujo: "La familia ha estado trabajando estrechamente con Madfish / Snapper Music durante los últimos años para reunir esta formidable colección de música y recuerdos. Estamos muy emocionados de presentar esta fabulosa selección para que coincida con la tan esperada incorporación de John al Salón de la Fama del Rock 'n' Roll".
Los herederos de Mayall también facilitaron dos actuaciones privadas y grabados para la caja. Se trata de la noche del club de Gaz Mayall, Gaz's Rockin' Blues, en 1981 y 1982 respectivamente. La primera incluye a Alexis Korner y la segunda es un raro ejemplo de John y sus hijos Gaz y Ben apareciendo juntos en el escenario, según anunciaron los representantes de Madfish.
