La serie Bottleg de Bob Dylan se cierra con la última entrega correspondiente al volumen 18, que lleva el título Through The Open Window y se centra en el periodo comprendido entre los años 1956 y 1963. La nueva edición se pondrá a la venta el 31 de octubre de 2025 en diferentes formatos: edición de lujo en caja de 8 discos compactos (CD), 2 CD y 4 LP.
El material incluido en Through The Open Window está relacionado con los primeros tiempos de Bob Dylan en su camino de formación como compositor y cantante, desde la segunda mitad de la década de 1950 en su natal Minnesota hasta los comienzos de los 60 del siglo pasado en el ambiente musical y político del Greenwich Village neoyorquino.
La caja de 8 CD ofrece un interesante números de grabaciones descartadas por Columbia Records, interpretaciones en clubes de música folk y de canción protesta, tomas en encuentros informales, en viviendas de diferentes amistades y sesiones de improvisación en antiguos lugares de reunión de músicos, según recoge la información promocional. Desde Columbia, se añade que "muchas de las grabaciones son extremadamente raras; otras nunca se han presentado en formato alguno".
La web de Bob Dylan indica que la citada edición de lujo en formato compacto "es un relato único de los primeros años de Dylan, cuando perfeccionó su talento y transformó canciones folclóricas tradicionales y bocetos líricos en algunas de sus canciones más grandiosas y perdurables, como Blowin' in the Wind y The Times They Are A-Changin'. Concluye con una grabación inédita, íntegra, del concierto emblemático de Dylan en el Carnegie Hall el 26 de octubre de 1963. Culminación del excepcional ascenso inicial de Dylan, ese concierto también marcó el final del comienzo de su larga carrera".
La edición especial recoge 139 piezas, además del registro de 48 actuaciones inéditas, 38 cortes raros y un libro de tapa dura de 125 páginas con información de Sean Wilentz y más de 100 fotografías exclusivas.
Wilentz recuerda en relación con Through The Open Window: “De esa época y esos lugares, esta colección es solo un fragmento. Aun así, como registro auditivo de un artista en su transformación —o en el caso de Dylan, la primera de sus muchas facetas artísticas—, la colección busca desintegrar el tiempo y el espacio, no como una ensoñación nostálgica, sino como una conexión viva entre el pasado y el presente, lo antiguo y lo nuevo, que nunca son tan distintos como podríamos pensar”.
